Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. turned the most recent transport provider to affix the brand new builders membership when it introduced plans to order a dozen or extra new container ships.
The Taiwan-based provider mentioned in a press release that its board of administrators on Dec. 20 authorized a brand new fleet optimization plan, together with the addition of 13 container ships starting from 8,000 twenty-foot equal items (TEUs ) to fifteen,000 TEU.
These orders, which the provider says will optimize its service community and enhance the competitiveness of its fleet, will change vessels 20 years previous and older with a capability of 5,500 TEU to six,500 TEU on main service routes.
The ships – on the smaller finish of contemporary functionality – may most likely even be seen in intra-Asia service.
The brand new ships will incorporate clear power expertise to scale back greenhouse fuel emissions – a significant concern for transport firms going through carbon taxes in Europe.
Yang Ming is the ninth largest transport container provider, working a fleet of 94 vessels with a capability of roughly 708,593 TEU, based on revealed reviews.
