The Rivers State Home of Meeting led by Martin Amayhole has bypassed the assent of Governor Seminyaleye Fupara of three payments handed earlier and referred them to him for approval.
The payments, which have been offered to the governor a month in the past, embody the Rivers State Training (Return of Colleges) (Modification) Invoice, the Rivers State Electrical energy Market Invoice and the Rivers State Commissions of Inquiry Invoice, 2024.
Lawmakers loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, of their 94th legislative session on Thursday, took the choice to bypass the governor’s approval after he withheld the approval.
Commenting on the three payments, which have been represented by the Majority Chief, Main Jack, and debated by members, the Speaker of Parliament, Martin Amayhole, cited Part 100(5) of the 1999 Structure of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He acknowledged that this provision authorizes the Home of Representatives to override the governor if he withholds approval.
When the Speaker of the Home put the query to a vote, members voted unanimously to override the governor’s veto.
Talking concerning the council’s determination, Amawil criticized Fubara, accusing him of laziness and incompetence. He burdened that the governor can not restrain the state, stressing the necessity to make progress.
A press release issued by the Media Assistant to the Speaker of the Home of Representatives, Martins Wachukwu, and despatched to journalists, confirmed the unanimous vote to override the governor’s approval.
In additional criticism of the governor, Amayhole described Fubara as somebody who sees himself as above the structure, judiciary and different present legal guidelines of the state.
The Speaker assured that the Home of Representatives would proceed to uphold the Structure and democratic ideas, including that beneath Part 100 (5) of the Structure, the three legal guidelines have been now in drive in Rivers State.
