Hugo Sotil, the previous Barcelona striker who fashioned a formidable partnership with Johan Cruyff within the early Nineteen Seventies, has died aged 75.
The Peruvian, who scored 25 instances in 65 appearances for the La Liga giants between 1973 and 1976, was broadly thought to be probably the greatest South American gamers of his era.
Affectionately nicknamed “Cholo”, Sotil was a part of the Peru staff that reached the World Cup quarter-finals in 1970 and 1978, and performed alongside Cruyff on the Catalan membership, scoring 17 objectives in all competitions throughout of his first season.
Barcelona have been topped league champions that very same season for the primary time in 14 years, and Sotil’s cellphone name to his mom by which he advised her “Mother, we’re champions” entered Barça folklore.
He had been hospitalized in his native nation on December 20 and there have been experiences of “well being issues”.
In a press release posted on the membership’s X account, Barcelona mentioned: “FC Barcelona mourns the passing of Hugo Sotil, who performed for Barça from 1973 to 1976, and extends its condolences to his household and mates.
“Relaxation in peace, Cholo.”
The membership adopted the message with a photograph of Sotil and Cruyff and the caption: “Johan Cruyff & Hugo Sotil. Unforgettable.”

In Could 1984, Sotil performed for Barcelona in a testimonial match between the 1974 staff and a South American XI, after which he mentioned: “Since I left Barça I’ve been ready this second. I really like Barcelona, the pleasant folks and the love of the followers.
Then, three a long time later, in October 2014, Sotil mentioned: “The love of the folks of Barça is unforgettable. The day I die, I hope they bury me in a Barça jersey.
