Health care company canceled in-person investor day following murder of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare in New York.
Centene, which provides managed care and health insurance services, announced Friday that it will webcast its Investor Day on Dec. 12 at 8:30 a.m. ET rather than holding the event in person after the death from Thompson on Wednesday. Centene's annual investor day was originally scheduled to be held in New York at this time and date.
This decision comes as companies in the health insurance and healthcare The industry is beefing up security and taking precautionary measures, such as removing photos and biographies of executives after Thompson's killing, which law enforcement officials called a “premeditated and targeted attack.” The suspect is still at large and a manhunt is underway.
“All of us at Centene are deeply saddened by the death of Brian Thompson and want to express our support for everyone affected,” Sarah London, CEO of Centene, said in a statement. “Health insurance is a big industry and a small community; many CenTeam members have crossed paths with Brian during their careers.

“He was a person with a deep sense of empathy and a real passion for improving access to care. Our thoughts are with his family and colleagues during this difficult time,” added London.
Following the Thompson murderUnitedHealthcare has removed the company's direction page from its website, with the URL now redirecting web traffic to the company's home page.
The photo and biography of Thompson's wife, Paulette, were also removed from the website of her employer, Park Nicollet Health Service.
CVS Health confirmed to FOX Business on Friday that all photos of its executives had been removed and declined further comment.
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield also removed its leadership page and redirected it to its “about us” page.

The company on Thursday canceled a planned reduction of reimbursements for anesthesia procedures that miss a deadline following backlash from a group representing anesthesiologists and members of the public.
