Duck DynastyIt is Phil Robertson is in the “early stages” of Alzheimer’s disease, his family confirmed.
Phil's son Jase Robertson shared an update on the health of his father, 78, via the podcast episode on Friday, December 6, “Shameless with the Robertson family“.
“According to the doctors, they're sure he has some kind of blood disease that's causing all kinds of problems,” Jase, 55, explained on the podcast. “It’s accelerated and it’s causing problems throughout his body.”
Jase added that the diagnosis has been difficult for his father, both mentally and physically, sharing: “He's just not doing well. He's really struggling.
Additionally, Phil's health also deteriorated due to a persistent blood disease problem, Jase said.
Phil did not appear on the podcast episode due to his health, which made it difficult, although the reality star wished he could.
“He keeps saying, ‘I’m going to come back to podcasting,’” Jase said. “But I'm like, 'Well Phil, you can barely walk around without screaming in pain, and your memory isn't what it once was.' He says, “Tell me about that.” So he's literally unable – I think he would agree – to just sit down and have a conversation.
Phil became famous alongside his family through duck hunting reality TV series Duck Dynasty, aired from 2012 to 2017. In addition to Jase, Phil shares adult children Willie, 52, give46, and Alan Robertson59 years old, with wife Kay Robertson76.
He also discovered in 2020 that he had a daughter, Phyllis Thomas49 years old, born following an affair that occurred 45 years previously.
In the podcast, Jase said the family rallied around Phil to help him battle the terminal illness.
“We're trying to do a lot of things to figure out how to make him more comfortable and maybe help with his memory,” he said. “We have a team of doctors and they all agree that there is no way to cure what he has. So what do you do? We're trying to make him a little more comfortable.
Jase previously opened up about his love for his family in 2020 after discovering he had a sister that he didn't know.
He shared that this is why he was determined to meet Phyllis and be friendly.
“I fight a lot with my family but I support them,” Jase explained in a May 2020 episode of his “Unashamed” podcast. “I love them. I'm here for them. So I had already made this decision. I was ready to leave one way or another. I was going to love him no matter what. But I was like, “I really like him,” which is great.
