England The national cricket team players are ready to do battle with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). According to reports from the Telegraph, it is learned that 50 players from the team are planning to boycott next year's Hundred in protest against the board's decision not to let players play in franchise tournaments.
Since the last few months, the England and Wales Cricket Board has been quite strict and has made players understand the importance of playing for the nation. They took a major step last week by changing their policy regarding 'no objection certificates' (NoC) for players wishing to play in foreign leagues.
ECB will not give NoCs to players for leagues which collide with English summer
The ECB has mentioned that players will not receive NoCs for leagues which will collide with the English summer, unless the player has agreed a white-ball only deal with their county. This means that no player would be part of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Additionally, English players will also not be allowed to participate in the tournament which will face the calendar of Vitality Blast and the Hundred. This means that players would find it difficult to play in Major League Cricket, Canada's Global T20 League, Lanka Premier League, as well as the Caribbean Premier League.
However, this did not go down well with the players as they expressed their disappointment. According to reports, almost 50 players were part of the series meetings with the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) this week. Based on these meetings, the PCA will take calls to see whether it needs to issue a formal response relating to ECB policy.
England players have decided not to take part in negotiations regarding their continued membership by their teams unless the NoC situation is resolved.
Reports also add that some England players have had discussions related to playing Hundred. It is learned that some cricketers have decided that this will not be part of the negotiations regarding their continuation by their teamsthen refusing to participate in the draft unless the NoC situation is resolved to their liking.
Reports claim that among the 40-50 players, a significant number of players have represented England. This could prove to be a huge headache for the ECB, especially with the sale of stakes in all eight hundred teams to investors.
Some players have decided to retire from red-ball cricket
A source close to the developments said: “In principle this is a very strong position which shows the strength of feeling. The question is whether some are leaving because money talks and there could be a domino effect.”
Moreover, reports claim that some of the big players in the county have decided to pull out of the red ball action and renegotiate their county contracts if their lucrative contracts in Pakistan are confirmed. It remains to be seen whether the ECB will change its stance on NoCs.
