Gabrielle Union's SimStyled Salon experience is all about 'reaching people where they are'
Union is often seen as turning heads on red carpets with her stunning hairstyles. With that in mind, she and Sims worked together to curate the SimStyled Salon experience.
Using eight of her most praised looks, the actress and Sims taught employees at JCPenney salons in Los Angeles and San Diego how to imitate them quickly – two hours or less – and at prices that don't weigh heavily on the wallet.
“It has literally been [about] 20 years worth [of hairstyles with Sims]», Union explain.
“And so, we kind of had to figure out which topics are the most commented on and which ones. [people] most tried to recreate. [Then]we had to work with the JCPenney team to offer a variety of styles that meet all of our customers with textured hair, where they are, without compromising on them.

For Sims, the SimStyled experience is about a personal connection with salon employees and customers – not just learning through tutorials.
” I wanted to [the salon workers] feeling the authenticity of my spirit and my passion for movement, which is the SimsStyle method,” he shared.
“I wanted them to know that we were a team. They're not the ones working for me or just for JCPenney. We're a family now and I need them to feel like family so that [they’re] passionate about executing the vision. Because if they believe in the vision, then customers [will be] to be really happy with the results and that’s what we want.”
