“Unfortunately, I’m 13 years late,” Martin said recently. The Hollywood Reporter of his progress on the highly anticipated sixth entry of the A song of ice and fire series. “Every time I say that, I'm [like]'How could I be 13 years late?' I don't know, it happens one day at a time.
At this point, asking the writer about Winter winds is almost old hat — even THR, which spoke to Martin about his plan to make a series of short films inspired by the work of his close friend and fellow science fiction writer Howard Waldrop, acknowledged that while Martin was hesitant to want to talk about the book or not, you're sort of can't talk to him at this point without asking. At this point, Martin himself offered a vague but existential update. “[Winds of Winter is] always a priority. Many people already write obituaries for me. “Oh, he’ll never finish.” Maybe they're right. I don't know. I'm alive right now! I look pretty vital!
Martin also added that he probably won't retire, so maybe he'll actually finish this book or die trying, one day. Remember, for now, we are all equally alive, and maybe some of us will be alive long enough to see these winds blowing across our shelves at some point.
