Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move away from Anfield.
The right-back has been in great form for the Reds this season and has helped them move to the top of the Premier League and Champions League table.
He is one of the first names on the Liverpool team sheet and over the years he has built his importance to the Merseyside club.
Under former manager Jurgen Klopp, Alexander-Arnold contributed to the club's success in the Premier League and Champions League.
Following Gareth Southgate's departure from England, the right-back has been a regular starter for the Three Lions, demonstrating his importance to his country as well as his club.
Jamie Carragher believes fans should remember the Liverpool star even if he leaves the club as a free agent.
The former Liverpool icon believes a move away from Anfield should not affect Alexander-Arnold's legacy at the club.
“Trent should be loved no matter what.” Carragher said in a Telegraph Questions and Answers.
“But he will be more respected than loved if he leaves this summer. Local players are treated differently from foreign stars. That's how it is.
“In other words, I'm not sure you'll have a banner on the Kop anytime soon saying 'give Trent all the money he wants'. With the local guys it's always more like: “You play for Liverpool, so what more do you want?”
“Trent will get a lot of criticism if he leaves for free as he is valued at around £90m, but there will be more acceptance if Salah and Van Dijk leave for a Bosman even if one costs £40m Sterling and the other 40 million pounds 75 million Trent cost no transfer fee, so he was leaving for the same price.
“If I could offer Trent my advice it would be to sign a deal and get yourself a realistic buyout clause so the option is there if the chance of a move arises again. This way, if Real still want it, Liverpool could get a few quid and Trent will always be remembered as Liverpool's greatest right-back.
Will Trent Alexander-Arnold leave Liverpool for Real Madrid?
The Spanish champions were linked with move for Liverpool man. They want to reunite him with his best friend Jude Bellingham at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The fact that he could leave the club as a free agent would be a huge blow for the Reds.
They could easily have received a world record fee for a right-back if they had tied Alexander-Arnold to a long-term contract.
Arne Slot's team would still do anything to keep the player at the club, but as time passes he moves closer to Liverpool and the club's position weakens.
At the start of January, Alexander-Arnold will be allowed to begin discussions with other clubs with a view to a move this summer.
Alongside the right-back, the The Reds could also lose their goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher at the end of the season.
