(Reuters) – Japan’s Nippon Metal has proposed giving the U.S. authorities a veto over any potential cuts in U.S. Metal’s manufacturing capability, as a part of its effort to win approval from President Joe Biden for the acquisition of the American steelmaker, the Washington Publish reported Tuesday.
Final week, the Committee on International Funding in the US (CFIUS) referred the choice to approve or block the deal to President Biden.
Biden, who leaves workplace on January 20, should determine on the deal by January 7, and if he takes no motion it can lead to automated approval of the merger.
In its proposal, Nippon Metal pledged to not scale back manufacturing capability at U.S. Metal’s vegetation within the nation for 10 years until permitted by a Treasury-led overview committee, the report stated. , citing a doc despatched to the White Home.
US Metal, Nippon Metal and the White Home didn’t instantly reply to Reuters requests for remark.
