ANKARA (Reuters) – There is no such thing as a ceasefire settlement between Turkey and the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northern Syria, opposite to a U.S. announcement on the difficulty, a Turkish Protection Ministry official stated Thursday.
Turkey believes that Turkish-backed Syrian Nationwide Military (SNA) forces will “liberate” areas occupied by the Kurdish PKK/YPG militia in northern Syria, the official additionally stated.
The SDF is an ally of the US coalition towards Islamic State militants. It’s led by the YPG, a gaggle that Ankara views as an extension of the Kurdistan Staff’ Occasion (PKK), whose fighters have fought the Turkish state for 40 years.
