MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia’s Federal Safety Service (FSB) mentioned on Saturday it had foiled a Ukrainian plot to kill a high-ranking Russian officer and a pro-Russian conflict blogger with a bomb hidden in a conveyable speaker .
The FSB, the principle successor to the Soviet-era KGB, mentioned a Russian citizen established contact with an officer of Ukraine’s GUR army intelligence company by means of the messaging app Telegram.
On the directions of the Ukrainian intelligence officer, the Russian citizen then recovered a bomb from a hiding place in Moscow, the FSB mentioned. The bomb, equal to 1 1/2 kg of TNT and crammed with ball bearings, was hidden in a conveyable speaker, the FSB mentioned.
The FSB didn’t title the officer or blogger focused by the plot. Ukraine’s army intelligence company GUR couldn’t instantly be reached for remark.
Ukraine says Russia’s conflict towards it poses an existential menace to the Ukrainian state and has made clear it considers focused killings – meant to decrease morale and punish these kyiv considers responsible of crimes of conflict – as reliable.
Russia has referred to as these acts unlawful “acts of terrorism” and accuses Ukraine of murdering civilians like Darya Dugina, the daughter of a nationalist ideologue, in 2022.
