Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe now controls the club's operations and he hopes to return the club to its former heights.
Ratcliffe paid £1.3 billion to take a 27.7% stake in the club and is now in charge of decision-making at Old Trafford.
As a Man United fan, Ratcliffe is determined to make big changes at the club but he knows it won't be easy.
Since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013, Man United have never come close to winning the Premier League or Champions League.
During this time, they have seen their rivals Manchester City win the league title regularly as well as the Champions League once.
In conversation with United We Stand fanzine, as reported by IndependentRatcliffe said:
“Manchester United have become mediocre. It's not elite and it's supposed to be one of the best football clubs in the world. That's what it was under [Sir] Alex [Ferguson]. Major changes are coming to reach elite status. But there have already been huge changes at this club.
“It’s not easy and it’s not quick. This is a complex problem and because it has been moving in this direction for so long, a lot of inertia has built up within the organization. Trying to turn what has been relatively mediocre into an elite, high-profile team is a huge task.
Man United see changes under new hierarchy
Sir Jim made changes in the hierarchy of the club. Dan Ashworth, who joined the club as its first ever sporting director, is an important recruit.
His experience, particularly with the FA and Brighton & Hove Albion, is seen as key to improving the club's football operations, recruitment and overall strategy.
Omar Berrada has taken on the role of CEO, overseeing the club's business and operations, while Jason Wilcox, the new technical director, is tasked with strengthening the club's footballing structure, including talent development and recruitment.
New Man United co-owner Ratcliffe is determined to make improvements on and off the pitch in order to bring success and stability to the club.
Ruben Amorim, the club's new manager, told the players how to please the fans as the Portuguese manager strives to turn around the club's fortunes.
