Many social media users this week mocked the killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson and expressed frustration with the U.S. healthcare system.
In particular, many reacted with laughing emojis to United Healthcare Group's Facebook post, saying the company was “deeply saddened and shocked” by Thompson's sudden death.
“Brian was a highly respected colleague and friend to all who worked with him. We work closely with the New York Police Department and ask for your patience and understanding during this difficult time. Our hearts go out to the family from Brian and to all his loved ones for him,” continued United's message, which at one point sparked more than 77,000 laughing reactions.
Authorities are still investigating the murder of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, who was shot dead outside a New York hotel early Wednesday in what police say was a “targeted and premeditated attack.”

Police are still trying to find the killer and are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Although the New York Police Department has not yet revealed a possible motive for the killing, the nation's largest health agency insurance company has been criticized in recent months. In particular, he is under scrutiny for allegedly wrongly denying claims.
Thompson's death has sparked increased concern in the industry, with CVS removing images of executives from its website as the manhunt continues.
UnitedHealth Group had limited the number of people allowed to comment the position. However, the numerous comments and reactions posted since Wednesday are still visible.
“The current ratio of laughter to sympathetic reactions to United Health's message regarding the assassination of their CEO is 77,000 laughs to 6,000 sympathizers and the trend continues to get worse. The American people, however they vote, fed up with the private corporate healthcare BS,” one person responded to United’s post.
