Teddy Mellencamp filed for divorce of the husband Edwin Arroyave last month, but the two go very well together.
Mellencamp, 43, launched his new podcast “Rough diamonds» alongside former The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills costar Erika Girardi on Thursday, December 5, and in the first episode, she talked about the dynamic between her and her ex-husband.
“[We] can both be there, like for sporting events [with our kids]“, she explained. “It’s not that we can’t. We are completely happy to be together.
Despite the possible end of their marriageMellencamp maintains that having children with Arroyave is “one of the best things” she's ever done.
The couple share three children, daughters Slate, 12, and Dove, 4, and son Cruz, 10. Mellencamp revealed that the children knew about their parents' separation. She has affirmed since the beginning of the process that their well-being remains her priority.
“After much care and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce,” Mellencamp wrote in a Nov. 2 statement. “My priority is my children and I ensure that everything is taken into account in their privacy and well-being throughout this new chapter.
“Making a public statement is not something I wanted to do,” she continued. “But in an effort to protect my family from unwarranted speculation and rumors, I felt that being open, honest and vulnerable was the best path forward.”
Later that month, Us every week reported that Mellencamp allegedly had an affair with his horse trainer, Simon Schröderbefore the separation. The affair dates back several months and “it is not yet news,” said a source. Weadding that Mellencamp and Arroyave were unfaithful during their marriage.
Mellencamp and Arroyave currently alternate over who sleeps in the house with the children – a practice called nesting. When Arroyave's turn comes, Mellencamp says she stays with a friend and companion RHOBA star Kyle Richards.
“In some places you can just file for divorce… in California there is a six-month cooling-off period,” she said. “During these six months, you can do a multitude of things. The way I learned about nesting was from a good friend of mine, she's a divorce coach. She told me about nesting. This is where the children stay [in the marital home] and parents come and go.
Mellencamp added that this practice has worked well so far for her children.
“It works well for the kids: we’re right around the corner and everything is on a calendar,” she said. “They know exactly when I’m coming and going and vice versa.”
