1.37 Chepstow – Good risk at all and Gelino Bello headlines Welsh national trial
Good risk at all And Gélino Bello confront each other in the Coral Welsh Grand National Trial Handicap Chase (1.37).
The Sam Thomas yard is in fine form and Good Risk At All will be prized as it makes its seasonal reappearance in the hands of Dylan Johnston. He is a stylish hurdler and scored in one of his three chase starts last season, but he will need to bounce back from a heavy defeat here in December last year.
Gelino Bello arrives as a top weight for champion trainer Paul Nicholls. A Grade 1 winner as a novice hurdler, he made an encouraging start over hurdles winning his first two starts before being beaten in the Kauto Star Novices' Chase at Kempton in December 2022. He did not been seen again since he was retired in the Cleeve Hurdle 679 days ago and will therefore have a bit to prove.
His stablemate Brave Kingdom is wanted for this contest as he is two out of three over fences and falling in grade after contesting the Reynoldstown Chase on his last visit.
2.12 Chepstow – First time winner Livin On Luco faces Mahland
A tough competition has a first winner Living on Luco bid for two on the rebound in the Coral “That’s what we’re here for” Limited handicap pursuit for novices (2.12).
The charge of Philip Hobbs and Johnson White triumphed over 2m 5f at Newton Abbot in late October and should enjoy this tougher test over almost three miles.
Mel Rowley's Mahland took off over the hurdles seeing Minella Blueway at Ffos Las in April. At his seasonal debut, he considers an interesting newcomer in fencing.
Wrapped in May has undergone wind surgery since winning his final start last season and is now expected to do better to tackle the biggest obstacles.
6:30 p.m. Wolverhampton – Lerwick and Arcadian Nights
Lerwick And Arcadian Nights functionality in the £30 in free bets with BetUK Handicap (6.30).
Ed Bethell saddles Lerwick, who made an encouraging all-weather debut by finishing second over a mile at Southwell. That extra mile and a half distance could allow him to do better despite a 1-pound increase in weights.
Arcadian Nights is a three-time course and distance winner and looks sure to be competitive after an excellent second-place effort here in October.
Captain of Asgard completes the shortlist and looks to make it a third success, even if he has to take a step forward to get back on the winning path.
Watch every race from Chepstow and Wolverhampton live on Sky Sports Racing on Saturday December 7.
