WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President-elect Donald Trump said on Saturday the United States should not be involved in the conflict in Syria, where rebel forces threaten President Bashar al-Assad's government.
“Syria is a disaster, but it is not our friend, and the United States should have nothing to do with it. IT'S NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY. DON'T GET INVOLVED!” Trump said in a message on his social network. Truth Social media platform.
Trump said that Assad's ally Russia, being engaged in a war against Ukraine, “seems unable to stop this literal march through Syria, a country it has protected for years.”
If Russia were forced to leave Syria, it “might actually be the best thing that could happen to it” because “Russia has never had much benefit in Syria,” Trump said.
