Helen was born on December 8, 1939 in Buffalo, New York and labored as a music instructor for over 40 years within the Ossining and Manhattanville college districts. She was additionally a professor at Manhattanville School.

Along with Vanessa, Helen had a son, Chris Williams (born November 1967) together with her school sweetheart husband, Milton A. Williams Jr., who died of pancreatitis in 2006.
