Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has shared his views on Virat Kohli's dismissal during the second innings of the ongoing second Test against the Australia national cricket team. He said the right-hander had serious technical flaws and he couldn't find solutions.
Virat Kohli, who scored a terrific century in the first Test in Perth, recorded failures in both innings of the ongoing Adelaide Test match. The opener looked helpless in both innings as the Australian pacers were all over him and made life difficult. With the way he was hitting in the second down, it seemed like only a matter of time for him.
Virat Kohli was tested by Scott Boland in the second innings
While it was Micthell Starc who improved in the first round, it was Scott Boland who took him out in the second round. The right-arm pacer played regularly in the outside channel and troubled Kohli throughout his stay at the crease in the second innings.
Kohli finally edged Scott Boland's delivery which was caught by keeper-batsman Alex Carey. The first batter was tested by the fast bowler entirely in his spell and then finally I was back in the shed for 11 runs with 21 balls. He managed only 7 runs in the first innings.
With the monkey from the start, you expected a much more relaxed, fitter Virat Kohli – Sanjay Manjrekar
Sanjay Manjrekar talked about Kohli's innings and mentioned that the batter's technique to counter the outside line made life difficult for him. He also added that he expected the hitter to hit free, after scoring a ton in the last game. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he said:
“I don't have a strong opinion on Virat Kohli. I'm just saying, you know, the truth or the facts that I see in front of me. And that's something I've said before too. The technique that is developed to counter that line outside of a swinging ball hasn't exactly made his life any easier.
“When he got those 100 points in the last game, you know, I thought, okay, let's see if the lack of points is contributing to the mistakes he's making. Now, with the monkey right off the bat, you expect Virat to be a lot more relaxed and, you know, in better shape.”
He has this serious technical problem that he just can't find a solution to – Sanjay Manjrekar on Virat Kohli
Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that Kohli was troubled by that same line, which showed that he had a technical problem that he just couldn't find a solution to. He clarified:
“But clearly, earlier it was a no-run problem and then a technical problem. But after he got 100, the fact that he was troubled by that same line showed that he had this serious problem technique to which he simply could not find a solution.
Virat Kohli would now be looking for a strong comeback in the next match. In the ongoing match, India are in big trouble, having lost 5 wickets with 29 runs still in the bank. Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who were up against the wall, were hoping to end the deficit and set a fighting target.
