Ruben Amorim admitted Manchester United are a 'massive club but not a massive team' and explained what they need to do to improve their performances.
The Red Devils climb to 13th place in the rankings. Premier League ranking since Portuguese coach Amorim took charge. A draw at Ipswich Town and a 4-0 against Everton marked significant improvements over their performance earlier in the campaign, but a 2-0 defeat against Arsenal proved that there were still changes to be made.
Amorim. whose arrival at Old Trafford was also accompanied by a new formation, remains confident in his ability to turn around the club's fortunes. Before their meeting with Nottingham Forest On Saturday, Amorim highlighted areas in which his team needs to improve.
“We are a big club but not a big team and we know that,” he told reporters in his pre-match press conference. “It's not a problem to say it. We want to improve at a different time to Arsenal but it shows during the match. I think we need to believe in it more. We weren't dominant in the game but in control.
“There weren't many chances for Arsenal. Of course, a lot of set pieces, but everything went well, especially in the first half. So we had some good things at that moment -there, but you can see that there is still a lot to do.
“We need to be better in the final third and create more danger. They must feel that. I felt Arsenal struggled to block our build-up but, when they defended their goal, it was quite comfortable for them it's a learning process and I try to improve in two days.
“They are professional athletes,” he continued, “They can get better. They can't be faster but they can run more with training. We are on that path. We have to get better at training then in matches and they will be able to do it because each coach has a different way of applying pressure.
“Sometimes they use a low block instead, but some coaches want to press higher, and that changes the load on the players during the match. So they are able to do that if they do it every game and every practice.”
United will host seventh-place Forest on Saturday night.
