Jamaica Scorpions captain John Campbell has been suspended for four matches by Cricket West Indies (CWI). John Campbell received a ban for failing to field in the toss during the Super50 final against the Barbados Pride, leading to the loss of the 2024-25 Super50 final match.
The Super50 final was canceled due to an unusual situation in which neither of the two team captains showed up for the toss. After rain delays, referees declared conditions suitable for a 20-a-side match. However, the absence of both captains led to no trophy presentation for the 2024-25 edition.

John Campbell expressed his deep regret for his actions in a statement released by Cricket West Indies. Campbell clarified that he never intended to damage the reputation of the game. He stressed his commitment to maintaining the integrity of cricket and respecting the decisions of officials.
“I sincerely regret any disruption caused during the final and recognize that my actions may have been perceived as resistance to the decision of the match officials,” Campbell said.
“It was never my intention to undermine their authority or bring the game into disrepute. I fully recognize the importance of maintaining the integrity of the game and the need to respect the rules and the decisions of officials.”

Campbell, who played 20 Test matches for the West Indies, had previously served a four-year cricket ban imposed by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission in 2022 for failing to provide a sample for testing.
The ban was later reduced by two years and two months following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The left-handed batter has also played 6 ODIs and two T20I matches for the West Indies in his career.

The disciplinary committee is yet to make a decision regarding Barbados Pride captain Raymon Reifer. Reifer faces similar accusations to John Campbell, but he has yet to respond to the accusations made by match referee Reon King.
“We appreciate Mr. Campbell's acknowledgment of the situation and his sincere apology. In light of his admission and his demonstrated remorse, CWI has applied the minimum sanction of a four-match suspension for a Level 3 offense, per measure of leniency,” said the CWI director. of cricket, said Miles Bascombe.
“This decision reinforces the essential role of captains in upholding the values of sportsmanship and respecting the integrity of the game. We are confident that John will use this experience to continue to contribute positively to West Indies cricket and serve as a role model for the future.”
In addition to the suspensions, Cricket West Indies has confirmed that no match fees will be paid for the Super50 final and prize money for champions and runners-up will not be awarded.
